Archive 190SL - (W121)

My interest in Mercedes-Benz began after a school trip to Germany in 1969. As part of this trip we visited the Daimler museum in Stuttgart and I blown away by the cars on display. After passing my driving test a couple of years later it was more affordable VWs for me but the desire for a Mercedes-Benz, particularly a 190SL, remained. Fast forward a few decades and my wife and I were in California with a bunch of US friends visiting some large VW shows. One of my friends knew of my interest in Mercedes-Benz cars and asked us if we would like to drive his 230SL and also his 190SL. We had no hesitation saying yes. After the trip out he told me he had another 190SL that was for sale, a one family owned car. We ended up buying the car in 2006 and it went through a full restoration with Will Samples at S&S restorations in Dallas,Texas which is a story in itself. Will and his partner became great friends of ours and his ongoing advice has helped me keep our car on the road and running well. During this time we have also owned various E class, C class, CLK and an ML. We currently have an excellent W208 CLK convertible which makes a great contrast with the 190SL. The 190SL has won numerous concourse events but comes out rain or shine and took part in a 4 day tour of North Yorkshire earlier this year with 3 other couples and their 190SLs. I look forward to supporting fellow 190SL owning members and building on the good support that is already in place.
